Introduction to Judaism Class
The Union for Reform Judaism presents its semi-annual Introduction to Judaism Classes on Monday nights beginning in January 2008 at Washington Hebrew Congregation in DC and at Temple Rodef Shalom synagogue in Falls Church, Va
This 16-week program explores Judaism from the Reform perspective. This class is ideal for Jews seeking a better understanding of Jewish principles and practice. The class is also designed for interfaith couples as well as non-Jews considering conversion. The Introduction to Judaism class is required for those seeking conversion in the Reform movement. Enrollment in the Introduction to Judaism class requires the sponsorship of a rabbi or invested cantor.
The class will explore the following:
- Creating a Jewish home
- An outline of Jewish history
- An introduction to Jewish holidays and life cycle events
- An outline of Jewish theology and an exploration of Jewish spiritual values
- An outline of Jewish thought, philosophy, family, and contemporary issues
Classes are held from 7:30-9:20 p.m. on Monday evenings at Washington Hebrew Congregation (3935 Macomb Street NW Washington DC 20016) and at Temple Rodef Shalom (2100 Westmoreland St., Falls Church, VA 22043).
The cost of the course is $300 for an individual or $325 for a couple sharing one set of books. Eight textbooks are included in the cost of the course, as is a festive Shabbat Dinner once in the semester.
